Lace Intensive
With Kate Atherley
Elevate your knitting skills this summer and join renowned designer and tutor Kate Atherley in her Summer School - Lace Intensive. This class is a deep dive into lace knitting, suitable for knitters just beginning with lace, or with a little experience and wanting to get more confident. We'll start right at the beginning, explaining how lace fabrics work, breaking down the key elements and stitches.
Small classes with plenty of attention from your tutor will ensure that you make lots of progress each week. Classes are recorded so you can catch up on anything you missed and rewatch sections as many times as you like.
As well as weekly classes, your tutor will host weekly Q&A sessions to give you the opportunity to check in.
A small amount of essential homework will be given each week - and of course, you can practice your newfound skills in between classes as much as you like.

Week 1
How lace works.
A deep dive into the "yarnover" and all its variants.
A exploration of decreases: how to work them, how to make them tidy, and when you can substitute one for another.
Fixing mistakes part one: yarnover problems.
The lifeline and how to use it to prevent and fix mistakes.
Week 2
More complex lace patterns, including two-sided lace.
Reading charts and patterns, and keeping track of your progress.
Stretchy cast ons and cast offs.
Attached edgings.
Week 3
Two-sided lace and specialty stitches, including nupps.
Pattern stitches with shaping and changing stitch counts.
Fixing mistakes: correcting decreases and larger pattern sections.
Week 4
Yarn choice and how different fibres work with and for lace projects.
The garter tab start for shawls.
Blocking.
Weaving in ends.
