Sapling Cushion

with Lisa Richardson

Join us for this fun and informative 5-week Sapling Cushion knitting course with Lisa Richardson!

This step-by-step course will guide you through creating a beautiful cushion, worked from the center outward. With each section, you'll pick up stitches for the next block, minimizing sewing and keeping the process seamless and satisfying.

The front and back of the cushion are different, and with 4 balls of yarn, you could opt for a fabric backing to create two unique cushions instead of just one.

We’ll explore exciting techniques like mosaic knitting, slip-stitch colourwork and mitred garter stitch squares.

These techniques may look complicated, but they’re surprisingly simple once you get the hang of them. With plenty of time to practice, ask questions, and chat, this course promises a warm and relaxed group knitting atmosphere.

Basic knitting skills are all you need (cast on, cast off, knit, and purl), so come ready to create something truly special!

Sapling Cushion - Class Summary

Session 1
We begin with the central mosaic section, using a slip stitch technique. This effective colourwork technique involves working with just one shade per row while slipping stitches. The completed central square will be the base for the shawl, from which you'll continue knitting along two of its sides.

Session 2
We'll recap the previous session and address any questions you have. Then, we’ll move on to picking up stitches from the mosaic section and begin our textured slip stitch colourwork. As before, you'll work one colour per row while slipping stitches to achieve the intricate design.

Session 3
In this class we explore more slipstitch colour work as we create a beautiful ribbed tweed.

Session 4
Next we will create the compelling garter stitch mitred squares, created by picking up stitches along the edges of two previously made squares and then decreasing to finish at the corner of the cushion.

Session 5
Finally we finish off the first side of the cushion with a pretty slip-stitch tweedy border.
