ROWAN CONNECT
SUMMER SCHOOL 2025
Stash Buster Sweater Intensive
With Lisa Richardson

This class is all about getting creative with the yarn you already have in your stash—something most of us knitters are very familiar with! Whether it’s leftover partial balls from past projects, those irresistible single skeins you bought without a plan, or even a pack of yarn that’s never quite inspired you to start a full project, we’ll explore how to make the most of it.
We’ll begin by playing with colour combinations and swatching to see what works well together. Then, we’ll explore simple garment shapes that you can use to turn your swatches into a one-of-a-kind piece, designed to suit your individual tension and yarn choices. Options might include a drop-shoulder sweater, a vest, or—if you’re up for a bit more of a challenge—a raglan cardigan.
The focus will be on working in stocking stitch, so no advanced knitting skills are needed. This is a relaxed, creative class designed to help you make something truly unique, using the yarn you already love.

Week 1
We’ll begin by exploring a variety of techniques that could work well for your project. These may include simple intarsia, slip stitch patterns, Fair Isle, and blended stocking stitch. We'll also consider how different colours, textures, and yarn weights can be combined effectively.
Week 2
This week is all about refining your fabric. You'll take tension measurements and start thinking about garment shapes that will complement your swatches and design ideas.
Week 3
We'll look at finishing details—what types of edgings, hems, cuffs, and neckbands will best suit the fabric you’ve created and the garment you have in mind. You’ll also begin to map out the pattern for your unique piece.
Week 4
This final session is focused on completing your custom pattern, so you’re ready to start knitting your one-of-a-kind garment.
